5th International Workshop on Software Architecture and Machine Learning (SAML 2026)
Gizealew Alazie Dagnaw presented a Stage-1 Registered Report introducing a Cognitive Federated Digital Twin (CFDT) architecture that integrates Digital Twins, federated learning mechanisms, and LLM-based cognitive agents to support privacy-preserving, adaptive, and coordinated decision-making in distributed cyber–physical environments. The proposed architecture embeds cognitive reasoning into distributed MAPE–K loops to enhance semantic interpretation, high-level planning, and explainability across autonomous digital twins. Targeting safety-critical domains such as interconnected museums, the work addresses key architectural challenges related to federated intelligence, semantic interoperability, coordination, and trustworthy cognitive reasoning. A simulation-based evaluation is preregistered to assess scalability, latency, privacy, adaptation quality, and reasoning performance in multi-museum evacuation scenarios. The expected results aim to provide architectural insights into the integration of LLM agents within federated Digital Twin ecosystems and to inform the design of intelligent, explainable, and privacy-aware software architectures.
